The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) was from 26th to 27th August, 2024 trained on public procurement and disposal of assets facilitated.

The training which was aimed to enhance CFTC staff with knowledge and skills in critical aspects of public procurement and asset disposal to ensure compliance with national standards and best practices, was facilitated by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA).

During the training, PPDA’s Leonard Kumwenda presented Malawi’s legal framework that governs the public procurement sector by citing the Asset Disposal Act of 2017.

“There is need for effective specifications using legally accepted methods. An institution has to be strategic in its planning for it to achieve positivity in procurement,” said Kumwenda.

He highlighted the role of users in specifying requirements, the importance of using Standard Bidding Documents (SBDs), steps for Bid Submission, Opening, and Evaluation, transparency and fairness throughout the procurement process.

CFTC Chief Executive Officer, Lloyds Vincent Nkhoma expressed his gratitude, acknowledging that the training will significantly enhance the CFTC’s efficiency in handling public procurement and asset disposal.

“The team is now better equipped to uphold the principles of PPDA. This training marks an important milestone for CFTC as it continues to strengthen its capacity in line with the Commission’s overall mission of just and fair trading practices in Malawi,” said Nkhoma.
