ALLEGED MISLEADING CONDUCT AND SUPPLY OF PRODUCTS LIKELY TO CAUSE INJURY OR PHYSICAL HARM TO CONSUMERS BY RANA SUPERETTE – NTCHEU

On 19th October, 2022, the Commission officially commenced investigations against Rana Superette on allegations of misleading conduct and supply of products which did not comply with the prescribed consumer standards. This was following were commenced following findings of a market inspection that was conducted at the shop.

During the inspection, the Commission found that the said shop was stocking packets of “MDI Homogenised and Pasteurised Liquid Milk”, 250ml, which is a product manufactured by the Malawi Dairy Industries (MDI). Upon examining the products, it was found that the packaging material and labelling of the product did not display “manufacture dates” and/or “expiry dates”.

Following deliberations, the Commission found that there was conclusive evidence that Rana was supplying packets of “MDI Homogenised and Pasteurised Liquid Milk”, 250 ml, which did not display “manufacture dates” and/or “expiry dates” which was in contravention of Section 43(1)(e) of the CFTA.

The Commission among others resolved to order Rana to pay a fine of K500,000.00 for supplying of products which does not comply with prescribed consumer safety standards.
