The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has been made aware of information regarding the recall of some of Nestlé’s baby formula products due to contamination.
Earlier last week, NESTLE had voluntarily issued a global recall of specific batches of its SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula due to the potential presence of cereulide in the batches concerned.
Nestle further stated that there had been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the products but was recalling the products out of an abundance of caution in line with its strict product quality and safety protocols.
Later last week, the South African National Consumer Protection Commission issued a critical recall for a specific batch of NAN Special Pro HA Infant Formula (800g), a product designed for infants aged zero to 12 months at risk of cow’s milk protein allergies. The recall concerns batch number 51660742F3, produced in June 2025.

Preliminary search has indicated that the said products are sold online in market places that are accessible which include Jumia.co.ke in Kenya and youbuy.mw in Malawi. The Commission is, therefore, concerned that the recalled product batches might have been imported in Malawi.
CFTC is warning the public of the dangers related to consuming the above recalled products. The general public including traders and consumers is encouraged to verify if products in stock are affected by the ongoing recalls and report to the CFTC through the following:
