The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) is meeting soyabean farmers across the country to understand their contracts and sensitise them on what the law says about agreements.
During the activity which runs from 23rd October to 3rd November, 2023 and is funded under the Agricultural Commercialisation Project (AGCOM), CFTC is visiting soyabean farmers in Phalombe, Zomba, Neno, Kasungu, Ntchisi, Mzimba, Dowa, Dedza and Lilongwe
.
The meetings are against a background of some companies not buying farm produce under their contracts while some contracts were alleged to have unfair terms.
During the meetings, the Commission is emphasizing to the farmers on the need to have written and signed contracts and contracts that are in their vernacular languages to ensure that they are well understood.
