KIZITO PHELENI

Kizito Pheleni is a lawyer with over 14 years of experience in the legal profession. He brings a strong knowledge base and a diverse set of transferable skills in areas such as, legislative drafting, litigation, prosecution, contract negotiation, mediation and the provision of legal advice on issues relating to both domestic and international law. He also demonstrates strong capability in vetting of legal instruments, legal research, analytical competence, and public policy analysis and planning.

Before joining the Competition and Fair Trading Commission in June 2025, Kizito served as Chief Parliamentary Counsel at the Malawi Parliament from 2017, having previously worked as Senior Clerk Assistant since June 2013. In these capacities, he was instrumental in providing legal and procedural guidance to parliamentary committees, drafting legislation, and supporting parliamentary reforms. Prior to his tenure at Parliament, Kizito began his professional legal career at the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in 2011, where he gained foundational experience in legal advisory services, litigation, and public law practice.

He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway, obtained in 2021. He earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, in 2010. In addition, he obtained a Diploma in Legislative Drafting in 2015 from International Law Institute-African Centre for Legal Excellency, Uganda.
