RECENT DECISIONS BY THE COMPETITION AND FAIR TRADING COMMISSION

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (“the Commission”) held meetings on 9th March and 11th May 2023, in Lilongwe, to consider and adjudicate over cases. 

The Commission considered and adjudicated over a total of 86 cases, which included 72 cases of unfair trading practices and 14 cases of anti-competitive business practices.

During the sittings, the Commission ordered companies to pay fines and refunds totaling MK13.9million which included a total of MK4 million in fines and MK9.9million in refunds to consumers.

This statement provides a summary of the Commission’s determinations on some of the cases, highlighting facts and orders made.
