Mr. Edward Joshua is an Economist by profession with a Master’s Degree in Economic Policy Management and a Bachelor of Social Science Degree majoring in economics obtained in 2012 and 1999 from the University of Zambia and University of Malawi, respectively. Mr. Joshua also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary of the United States of America, obtained in 2023.
Mr. Joshua joined the civil service in 2006 as an Economist in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, after working for European Union funded Micro-projects Programme as project officer from 2000 to 2005. He rose to the position of Chief Economist in 2014, and was head of the Strategic and Policy Analysis Section (SPA) in the Ministry; the section responsible for the formulation of short, medium and long term development instruments for Malawi.
As Chief Economist in the SPA, he was a member of the taskforce that worked on the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy III (MGDS III). Prior to heading the SPA, he was a key officer for over 5 years in the annual formulation of the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), being funding priorities, that inform the national development budget for Malawi.
Since 2017, Mr. Edward Joshua has been working as Programme Manager in the National Authorizing Officer Support Unit (NAO Support Unit) in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, responsible for programmes in economic, governance and trade sectors. In February 2025, Mr. Joshua joined the Competition and Fair Trading Commission as Director of Competition.
